About the Opportunity
Reporting to the Director, Finance, the Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis will be heavily involved in short and long-term financial planning for the Company and will have a crucial role in the managing the end-to-end forecasting, budgeting, and long-term planning processes. The incumbent will manage the consolidated annual budget and quarterly forecasts and guidance as needed, help maintain the corporate model, develop other asset models, administer the FP&A software systems, and provide financial analysis to the executive team. The incumbent will also assist with preparation of the MD&A and special projects.
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Forecasting and Budgeting:
- Work with the Company’s site business units (BU), providing assistance and guidance on the preparation of their quarterly forecasts, annual budgets, and long-term (life-of-mine) plans.
- Maintain existing communication channels with site FP&A teams, serve as the primary point of contact for any questions on forecasting or budgeting.
- Set a detailed plan and timeline for the execution of the quarterly forecast update and iterative consolidated budget exercise and help enforce accountability and timelines across all site BUs.
- Coordinate consolidation and presentation of overall results and insights from the forecast update or budget exercise.
- Coordinate weekly FP&A stand-up meetings and keep track of ongoing initiatives, including standard tasks and projects.
- Assume ownership and accountability for the budgeting software/tools. Maintain financial planning applications for site BU and corporate users in coordination with external vendor provider.
- Drive documentation of existing and new processes and procedures, and develop recommendations for FP&A process improvement and adoption of best practices.
- Travel to operations/projects from time-to-time to review and provide feedback on planning models used for forecasting and/or budgeting.
- Train site level staff (as required) on new protocols and/or systems pertaining to planning.
Business Analysis:
- Analyze financial and operational results to evaluate BUs/Company performance and to provide analysis and recommendations to management. Support senior management and other corporate departments with required financial analysis and financial data as required.
- Enhance the current state of business analysis in terms of quality of data, automation of reporting, visualization and interpretation of data and translation of data into useful information to be used for decision making by the executive team.
Asset Modelling:
- Help Senior Manager, FP&A and Special Projects maintain and update the Company’s corporate model which is the single source of truth supporting the internal view on the NAV of each asset within the portfolio or NAV of the consolidated Company.
- Assist Senior Manager, FP&A and Special Projects in producing models that project long-term results for BUs such as life of mine plans.
- Develop new models and enhance the existing models for the projects in the Company’s existing portfolio that might be undergoing a technical study (PEA, PFS, FS) and are being evaluated for potential development or divestment.
About You
The following will be critical to successfully performing this role:
- Undergraduate university degree in an appropriate area of expertise, with preference for mining engineering, business, or equivalent technical degree.
- Additional specialized education of up to four (4) years including master’s level degree or equivalent is preferred, with emphasis on Finance (for example, CFA or MBA) or Accounting (for example, CPA).
- At least five (5) years of related work experience or equivalent in the mining industry, including but not limited to:
- Experience working with senior corporate personnel, including teams within both highly technical, operational, and financial functions.
- Experience working with site level operations and finance teams (preferably for an international company across different countries and preferably mining related).
- Detailed financial analysis, forecasting, budgeting and modeling experience is highly preferred.
- Strong problem-solving skill with ability to understand big picture but also get into the details.
- Superior project management skills, with ability to multi-task, organize project plan and coordinate with highly skilled corporate, regional and mine site staff using influence skills rather than formal reporting authority.
- Takes ownership of work with demonstrated ability to take on a project and run with it, paired with an ability to maintain high level of performance in an environment with competing timelines and changing priorities.
- Strong ability to develop constructive relationships in order to work with other departments, including those in foreign operations, to ensure smooth and timely collection of information required for various FP&A purposes.
- Strong analytical capabilities (Excel) and good attention to detail and some experience in building and managing valuation models.
- Strong communication skills in presentation development, oral communication and other documentation.
- Good coaching skills with ability to mentor and provide feedback to other more junior team members.
- Expert in PowerPoint and other visualization tools like PowerBi or Think-Cell would be considered a strong asset.
- Experience with SAP and Oracle/Hyperion or other leading planning solutions is an asset.
