About the Opportunity
We have an opportunity for a Corporate Principal Mining Engineer to join the Centerra Corporate team. This position is a hybrid role based at our Toronto, ON office.
Reporting to the VP, Technical Services, the Corporate Principal Mining Engineer is responsible for providing supervision and direction as well as developing mine design and strategic mine planning to support safe, sustainable, and profitable mining operations. Additionally, this position is responsible for reviewing and providing guidance on both open pit and underground mine design optimized life of mine production planning and mining equipment selection. As a member of the technical team the role will lead and support engineering evaluations for possible project acquisitions, advance staged projects and/or joint ventures.
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of a corporate Mineral Resources and Mineral Reserves estimation and reporting governance process.
- Ability to act as a Qualified Person (QP) ensuring that all public mine engineering related public technical disclosure is current and in compliance with current securities legislation requirements.
- Provide specialized technical expertise to support the assumptions in mining reserve updates.
- Provide technical engineering expertise to operations to optimize mine operations; overseeing the LOM and shorter term planning, as well as potential development of projects and acquisitions.
- Lead and mentor other Engineers within the corporate office and with the sites and review planning and design proposals and execute the implementation of continuous improvement projects.
- Provide training and collaborate with engineering staffs at operations.
- Manage and lead teams providing engineering and economic guidance to the Business Development and Exploration groups.
- Manage mine engineering studies and multidisciplinary work.
- Conduct due diligence review in M&A opportunities.
- Assist with the development of long-term planning strategies for the operations and development projects.
- Provide insight into strategic mine planning to bring current and new asset to their maximum value.
- Take a leading role updating and maintaining cost and financial models.
- Provide engineering expertise, technical advice, and support to major projects in various stages of development.
- Recommend and ensure that company's engineering policies and best practice procedures are being followed and implemented.
About You
To qualify, you must have a university degree in mine engineering, along with 12+ years of relevant practical experience in both open pit and underground mining, including a solid background mining operations.
The following will be critical to successfully performing this role:
- 15+ years of progressive experience in direct project/operations environment
- Experience working on due diligence reviews and M&A opportunities
- Currently registered or qualified to register as a professional engineer (P.Eng.) or equivalent as defined under National Instrument 43-101
- 10+ years of experience with exposure to studies and financial modeling and mine operational budgeting would be considered an asset
- High level of proficiency with mine planning software systems (Datamine, NPV Scheduler, Deswik etc.) required
- Exhibit an interest /aptitude for further learning of such systems
- Advance level skills in Excel: ability to build financial models, with sensitivity analyses on key inputs and assumptions
- A firm understanding and knowledge of both open pit and underground mining procedures
- A solid geotechnical understanding, ground control and rock mechanic
- Strong communications skills, a team player with a strong inclination towards developing cooperative solutions
