About the Opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Specialist, Project Controls to join our Centerra Corporate team. This position is a hybrid role based at our Toronto, ON office, however we are also open to considering candidates located throughout Canada. 

Reporting to the Manager, Project Controls, the Senior Specialist, Project Controls is responsible for project controls execution across active capital projects. This role supports project performance monitoring, cost and schedule management, change control, and reporting functions in accordance with AACEI best practices and Centerra Gold project controls standards.

This role contributes to the development of internal project controls capacity within the Major Projects group and provides direct project-level support to ensure projects are delivered on schedule and within budget.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Support development and maintenance of project budgets for active capital projects, ensuring alignment with corporate cost control requirements.
  • Track, analyze, and report capital expenditures (CAPEX) and operational expenses (OPEX) at the project level.
  • Apply Earned Value Management (EVM) principles to monitor project financial performance and flag variances.
  • Ensure accurate tracking of contracts, scopes of work, change control, and purchase orders in the project controls system.
  • Support compliance with Centerra Gold financial reporting standards and internal audit requirements.

Project Planning & Scheduling

  • Develop and maintain project schedules using Primavera P6 or equivalent scheduling tools.
  • Conduct critical path analysis (CPA) to identify potential schedule risks and impacts.
  • Support project execution planning, including integration of schedule and cost baseline.
  • Assist in scenario planning and look-ahead scheduling for construction and commissioning phases.

Change Control & Risk Management

  • Administer the change management process, including evaluation and tracking of scope, schedule, and cost variations.
  • Maintain the project risk register and support development of mitigation and contingency plans.
  • Coordinate with project and site teams to ensure change events are captured, assessed, and approved in accordance with project controls procedures.

Performance Monitoring & Reporting

  • Gather and analyze project controls data including earned value, schedule variance, and cost trends to produce accurate and timely project status reports.
  • Prepare monthly cost variance reports, forecast updates, and change control summaries for project and senior management review.
  • Support preparation of executive-level dashboards and KPI reporting as directed by the Manager, Project Controls.
  • Identify performance trends and recommend corrective actions to the project team.

Stakeholder & Team Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with site construction teams, engineering, procurement, and finance personnel to ensure project controls data is accurate and current.
  • Coordinate with external consultants and contractors to obtain reporting inputs and ensure compliance with project controls requirements.
  • Support the Manager, Project Controls in developing and implementing controls standards, tools, and procedures across the Major Projects portfolio.
  • Contribute to knowledge transfer and institutional capacity-building within the project controls function.

About You

The following will be critical to successfully performing this role:

  • 6–8 years of progressive experience in project controls, with a minimum of 4 years in the mining or heavy industrial construction sector preferred.
  • University degree in engineering, construction management, business, or a related discipline.
  • AACEI certification (CEP, CCP, or equivalent) is an asset.
  • Solid working knowledge of Earned Value Management (EVM) principles and application.
  • Proficiency with Primavera P6 scheduling software; experience with SAP and Power Query is an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting project controls functions through engineering, construction, and commissioning phases.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail in cost and schedule reporting.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills; able to present project controls data clearly to project and management stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites, including remote locations, as required.
