About Thompson Creek Mine
The Thompson Creek Mine is a primary, surface molybdenum mine and mill located approximately 48 kilometers southwest of the town of Challis in Idaho's Custer County.
In operations since 1983, the mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods with large electric-powered shovels that can each move up to 100,000 tons of waste rock and ore per day.
Thompson Creek Mine promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.
About The Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a Engineer, Mine to join our Thompson Creek team.
Reporting to the Superintendent of Mine Engineering, the Mine Engineer is a pivotal role within the internal engineering team. This position supports mine production and development needs including planning, ore control, surveying, drill and blasting, dispatch and oversees safe and efficient mine operation extractions.
Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Follow safe work procedures and best practices.
- Development and communication of mine plans and strategies to support the operation as well as to technical staff.
- Mentor junior staff and other technical staff, as required.
- Development and implementation of mine planning, engineering and related systems and standards.
- Ensure short-range plans achieve long-range and / or business objectives.
- Coordination and delivery of long range and life of mine plans and reserves.
- Work with other departments to identify risk and create mitigation actions.
- Development of mine plans as required to support short- and long-term business needs (e.g., 5-year mine plan, Life of Mine plan).
- Collaborate in the development of CAPEX and OPEX forecasts and variance reporting.
- Responsible for delivering monthly production reconciliations
- Execution of select projects and support of others’ projects.
- Development and communication of mine plans and strategies to support evaluation and senior management decision-making regarding risk and value profiles of mine plans.
- Other duties may be assigned.
About You
To qualify, the following skills and experiences are required:
- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a closely related field with six plus years related experience desirable.
- Advanced user of mine planning software (Deswik preferred).
- Experience in open pit metal mine planning.
- FAA Certified Remote Pilot (drone) desirable.
- Experience in Drill and Blast.
- Experience in mine dewatering operations desirable.
- Ability to work in a team environment with geology, engineering and production personnel.
