About Thompson Creek Mine

The Thompson Creek Mine is a primary, surface molybdenum mine and mill located approximately 48 kilometres southwest of the town of Challis in Idaho's Custer County.

In operations since 1983, the mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods with large electric-powered shovels that can each move up to 100,000 tons of waste rock and ore per day.

Thompson Creek Mine promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.

About The Opportunity

We are looking for a Lead, Equipment Operator to join our Thompson Creek team. This leadership role is responsible for the safe operations of production and supportive equipment; assist with supervision of an operation’s crews; coordinate schedules, sequences, and assignments for work activities, based on work priority, quantity of equipment, and skill of personnel during the supervisor’s absence.  

 Your responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • This is a working lead tech position, wherein the primary responsibilities include safe operation of production and support equipment in the pit, and assist the Mine Operations Supervisor with supervisory tasks and responsibilities, as needed. 
  • Assume supervisory roles and duties in the absence of the Mine Operations Supervisor, such as coordinating schedules, sequences, and assignments for work activities, based on work priority, quantity of equipment, and skill of personnel.
  • Promote positive employee morale through open communication. 
  • Support and encourage employees to participate in the Work Safe Home Safe process.
  • Assist with accident and incident investigations and prepare reports of findings, as necessary.
  • Work as a team member with supervisors about work-related issues, and assist with training in safety, operational procedures, and/or equipment use.
  • Assist employees with correct job-skill deficiencies.
  • May be assigned other duties.

About You

To qualify, the following skills and experiences are required:

  • Minimum high school diploma or GED.
  • Excellent safety record.
  • Excellent leadership skills.
  • Experience in a leadership role is preferred.
  • Ability to identify, analyze, and resolve problems.
  • Ability to work safely and effectively in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working in a culturally diverse environment.
  • Proficient in the operations of production and supportive equipment.
  • Willingness to work in adverse conditions.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills, and motivate, develop, coordinate and direct people and resources.
  • Knowledge of mine equipment and tools, including designs, repairs, uses and maintenance.
