About Thompson Creek Mine
The Thompson Creek Mine is a primary, surface molybdenum mine and mill located approximately 48 kilometers southwest of the town of Challis in Idaho's Custer County.
In operations since 1983, the mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods with large electric-powered shovels that can each move up to 100,000 tons of waste rock and ore per day.
Thompson Creek Mine promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.
About The Opportunity
We are looking for an Analyst, Continuous Improvement to join our Thompson Creek team. Reporting to the General Manager, the Analyst, Continuous Improvement will work with site personnel at all levels to improve business and operational processes that will ensure a safe work environment, maximize profitability, drive quality improvements, provide premier customer services (internal and external), and reduce operating costs, inventories, and lead times through the appropriate application of business improvement methodologies.
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Work with site personnel to guide the improvement process and ensure sustainable results in the business area (Mine, Maintenance, Mill and Administration).
- Conducts time trials at the various sites to improve line/cycle efficiencies.
- Prepare status reports on a weekly, monthly and quarterly basis to ensure compliance to the organization’s targets.
- Assist in identifying cost savings and improvement opportunities and building full potential analytical cost-benefit models.
- Help to implement consistent systems and measures that appropriately assess performance and review progress to ensure achievement of improvement targets.
- Become familiar with operating effectiveness initiatives such as Lean and Six Sigma.
- Supports the flow of performance information (KPIs) in business areas (Mine, Maintenance, Mill and Administration); participates in discussions around best practices across Thompson Creek Mine.
- Collaborate with department team members to gather and analyze information to identify gaps and opportunities as well as to help focus the diagnosis of problems and the development of effective solutions.
- Reviews mining sequence and cycle times at the various sites to identify areas of improvement.
- Work closely with GM and Operations Manager to provide support in aligning site goals with TCM overall business strategy.
- Conduct root cause analysis to address operational challenges and prevent future issues.
About You
To qualify, the following skills and experiences are required:
- Bachelor's degree in Process Engineering or an associated field.
- 5-10 years of experience working in the mining industry in similar roles.
- 5+ years of experience working in a Continuous Improvement role or similar position.
- Experience in working to budgets and capital cost expectations.
- Familiarity with SAP SuccessFactors an asset.
