About Thompson Creek Mine

The Thompson Creek Mine is a primary, surface molybdenum mine and mill located approximately 48 kilometers southwest of the town of Challis in Idaho's Custer County.

In operations since 1983, the mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods with large electric-powered shovels that can each move up to 100,000 tons of waste rock and ore per day.

Thompson Creek Mine promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.

About The Opportunity

We are looking for a Summer Student, Mine Maintenance to join our Thompson Creek Mine Maintenance team for the summer of 2025. In this role, you will assist in the maintenance of heavy operating and supportive equipment to improve the overall performance and reliability. Additionally, this position will have an opportunity to complete challenging and rewarding projects while working alongside our professionals in the field.

Your responsibilities will include the following, but are not limited to: 

  • Participate and contribute to safety meetings.
  • Be open minded and willing to learn all aspects/practices of mine maintenance.
  • Assist in completion of preventative maintenance activities.
  • Assist in performing routine/non-routine maintenance and downtime mechanical repairs.
  • Support the mine maintenance department with various tasks as assigned.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

About You

To qualify, the following experience and skills are required:

  • Applicant must be at least 18 years of age, or older, by the beginning of the summer work term.
  • Full-time enrollment in post secondary education program in the fall (verification required prior to hire).
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Possess and maintain a valid a driver’s license.
  • Ability to pass Thompson Creek Mine pre-employment physical, which includes drug and alcohol testing.
  • Strong computer skills and experience working with Microsoft Office Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work tasks under various weather conditions.
  • Safety minded and willingness to adhere to safe work practices.
  • Team player, leadership and good interpersonal skills required.
