About Thompson Creek Mine

The Thompson Creek Mine is a primary, surface molybdenum mine and mill located approximately 48 kilometers southwest of the town of Challis in Idaho's Custer County.

In operations since 1983, the mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods with large electric-powered shovels that can each move up to 100,000 tons of waste rock and ore per day.

Thompson Creek Mine promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.

About The Opportunity

We are looking for a Electrical and Instrumentation Technician to join our Thompson Creek team. This role will be responsible for Electrical and Instrumentation troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance while performing all duties in a safe and efficient manner.

Your responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Maintain Electrical systems for Thompson Creek Mine.
  • Calibrate, repair, install, and replace various final control devices.
  • Troubleshoot damaged or nonworking electrical circuits.
  • Use PLC ladder logic to diagnose and troubleshoot systems.
  • Repair and terminate 25 kV ground cables for electric shovels.
  • Repair high voltage lines, perform basic work such as replacing cutouts or insulators in de-energized state.
  • Replace lighting fixtures, ballasts, and bulbs.
  • Use Rockwell Automation software to modify HMI information in graphics server.
  • Complete PMs on multiple styles of emergency generator systems.
  • Provide site wide support for all electrical equipment.
  • Maintain clean work environment.
  • Collaborate with maintenance, operations, and fellow technicians to complete projects safely and effectively.
  • Comply with TCM safety, health, environmental policies, procedures, and requirements.
  • Use SAP software to purchase parts, check inventories, and print work orders.

About You

To qualify, the following skills and experiences are required:

  • 5 years of experience in automation/instrumentation or 5 years of experience in industrial electrical field, preferred.
  • Experience working with electrical shovels including sub skids and splitters.
  • Experience working with PLC and HMI.
  • Experience working with Variable Frequency Drives.
  • Technical Certificates in related fields.
  • Journeyman License or trade school preferred.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and understand electrical symbols.
  • Must be able to work alternating shifts including night shifts.
  • Willingness to learn from others.
  • Must possess a valid drivers license.
  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED.
