About Thompson Creek Mine

The Thompson Creek Mine is a primary, surface molybdenum mine and mill located approximately 48 kilometers southwest of the town of Challis in Idaho's Custer County.

In operations since 1983, the mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods with large electric-powered shovels that can each move up to 100,000 tons of waste rock and ore per day.

Thompson Creek Mine promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.

About The Opportunity

We are looking for an IT Specialist to join our Thompson Creek team. Reporting to the Director, Infrastructure & Operations, the IT Specialist will primarily be responsible for providing desktop and network support for the end-users at TCM. The incumbent in this position will also on working with network and server management. 

Your responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Interact regularly and effectively with ticket submitters and provide on-site/ remote IT support.
  • Diagnose and resolve or escalate various and diverse computer hardware, software, and/or network problems in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Implementation and maintain all IT Systems to a high-quality standard including – Data, Applications, Computing Hardware, Network Infrastructure, Telecommunications, Radio Communications & Support Equipment.
  • Work to protect data against loss or damage.
  • Work to secure IT systems against unauthorized use.
  • Work to protect the security and confidentiality of data.
  • Minimize system outages and work to improve availability.
  • Share knowledge of IT Systems through documentation and peer communication.
  • Document jobs, work and processes & improve documentation.
  • Offer recommendations and observations for improving IT Services.
  • Maintain a safe, clean and organized workplace.
  • Supporting all global and local technology projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.

About You

To qualify, the following skills and experiences are required:

  • High school diploma and at least 3+ years of applicable experience.
  • Outstanding attention to detail and strong organizational skills. Work effectively independently and in a team environment with a positive attitude.
  • Microsoft & Cloud certifications or related is considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge of computers and experience using Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint. 
  • Excellent organization and time management skills; ability to develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish assigned work.
  • Must be a positive, proactive, dedicated team participant
  • Critical thinking and critical thinking skills; ability to use logic and reasoning to analyze and identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Highly comfortable in interacting with others, of varying personalities, in person, on the phone and through using remote tools.
  • Focus on safety and continuous improvement.
