About Thompson Creek Mine

The Thompson Creek Mine is a primary, surface molybdenum mine and mill located approximately 48 kilometers southwest of the town of Challis in Idaho's Custer County.

In operations since 1983, the mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods with large electric-powered shovels that can each move up to 100,000 tons of waste rock and ore per day.

Thompson Creek Mine promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.

About The Opportunity

We are looking for an IT Specialist to join our Thompson Creek team. Reporting to the Director, Cloud Integration & Azure Applications, the IT Specialist will primarily be responsible for providing desktop and network support for the end-users at TCM. The incumbent in this position will also on working with network and server management. 

Your responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Maintain and monitor on-premises Hyper-V/VMWare HA cluster and Windows Server infrastructure, including enterprise storage, database servers, AD objects, and mobile devices.
  • Administer, troubleshoot and enhance complex network infrastructure, including Fortinet firewalls, Cisco switches, wireless access points, internet connectivity, Phone systems, and relevant network and radio communication equipment, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
  • Install, configure, and maintain computers, workstations, and other end user hardware and peripherals.
  • Provide support to Mine site end users. Ensure that IT service requests and technical issues are addressed promptly and efficiently.
  • Collaborate closely with the Global Infrastructure and Cyber Security team to ensure compliance with the Corporate IT policies, cybersecurity standards and best practices, while driving continuous improvement initiatives for MTM IT infrastructure.
  • Work to secure IT systems against unauthorized use. 
  • Work to protect the security and confidentiality of data. 
  • Maintain backup systems to ensure data integrity and availability.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware and software problems; provide support for all services relating to IT systems.   
  • Document jobs, work and processes, create and update IT technical documentation including network diagrams, system configurations, asset inventory and knowledge articles. 
  • Follow documented processes, procedures, company policies & IT Code of Conduct. 
  • Respond to alerts from various IT Enterprise network and application monitoring dashboards for Virtual machines, Antivirus, Malware, Firewall Management, Active Directory, Network Performance, SIEM, Backups, and Cloud Services.
  • Offer recommendations and observations for improving IT Services. 
  • Work to deliver IT Plans and Objectives. 
  • Be available to work at any BC location where shared IT services are required. 
  • Support all global and local technology projects. 
  • Other related tasks and duties as assigned.

About You

To qualify, the following skills and experiences are required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering or Information technology related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years professional hands-on experience in similar role or a combination of education/certifications.
  • Highly comfortable in interacting with others, of varying personalities, in person, on the phone and through using remote tools.
  • Capable of providing extended hours when required to meet deadlines. 
  • Work with tools and equipment in Indoor, Outdoor and Industrial environments.
  • Work effectively independently and in a team environment with a positive attitude. 
  • Focus on safety and continuous improvement.
  • Certification in relevant technologies, such as Cisco CCNA, Fortinet FCP, Microsoft Server certifications is considered an asset.
  • Strong knowledge in network and server administration, enterprise virtualization, and M365 services.
  • Proven experience in IT user support, including troubleshooting hardware, software, and networks.
