About Mount Milligan Mine
Located approximately 155 kilometres northwest of Prince George in central BC, the Mount Milligan Mine is a conventional truck-shovel open-pit copper and gold mine and concentrator with a 60,000 tpd capacity copper flotation processing plant.
Mount Milligan operates with comfortable camp accommodations equipped with private washrooms, TV, Wi-Fi, an onsite gym, and other recreational activities. Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from several locations within the region.
Mount Milligan promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.
About the Opportunity
We have an opportunity for a full-time Manager, Human Resources to join our Mount Milligan team.
This is a hybrid position, with most job duties performed at home, and regular visits to the mine site (approximately 1 week per month).
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Advise senior management, especially the General Manager, aligning people and talent strategies with Corporate HR strategy. Consults and guides on all HR issues, employee relations and performance improvement.
- Lead and ensure the ongoing growth and development of the HR Team through effective leadership, mentoring, and feedback.
- Ensure a competent and professional team delivering valuable HR services to the site.
- Contribute to a high-performance culture by prioritizing people, demonstrating respectful and inclusive leadership behaviors and practices.
- Direct the implementation of global and site HR programs, providing coaching and guidance to managers. Lead talent management programs including annual talent reviews, training & development programs and running performance management calibration sessions.
- Act as a credible assessor and developer of talent and assumes responsibility for effective work force and succession planning processes. Ensure that MTM has the appropriate leaders, critical talent/skills and high potential individuals to drive future growth and a high performing culture.
- Take an active role in advancing Centerra’s Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity & Accessibility (IDEA) program ensuring integration of IDEA practices into all talent/employee program. Actively participates and guides the MTM Regional (IDEA) Committee.
- Manages MTM compensation & benefits programs, aligning to corporate compensation frameworks and benefit strategies.
- Oversees full cycle HR processes including recruitment and retention, onboarding and offboarding of employees; ensures consistent, centralized processes are followed.
- Ensures that time & attendance processes at site are functioning accurately and on a timely basis. Oversees the documentation required by the payroll team at Corporate Office to ensure proper payroll processing for MTM.
- Manages and oversees the timely maintenance and accuracy of all people data in the HR systems.
- Responsible for internal and external audits of HR documentation, processes and procedures.
- Ensures adherence to Canadian and British Columbia HR regulatory requirements. Understands evolving regulatory influences on management, policies, processes, and practices.
- Plays a key role in MTM’s labor budgeting process Responsible for the development of the annual budget for the HR department.
- Presents relevant HR metrics to management providing insights into demographics, turnover rates, employee satisfaction and other metrics as required.
- Maintains positive relations with local and indigenous communities. Works closely with local and indigenous communities to build and develop opportunities for employment and to retain indigenous employees.
- Collaborates with key stakeholders in other functions and operations departments, including colleagues in the Corporate Toronto office.
- Maintain a “roll-up your sleeves” manner that is perceived as people-centric, effective and non-bureaucratic.
About You
To qualify for the Manager, Human Resources role, you must have at least 8-10 years of progressive HR experience, including managing and leading HR teams.
The following skills, qualifications and experiences will also be critical to successfully performing this role:
- University degree in an HR related field and/or considerable related experience.
- Experience in an HR site-based operational leadership role with a strong working knowledge of multi-discipline HR functions, and proven track record of successfully building a high performing HR team.
- Accredited HR designation (desirable but not required).
- Strong understanding of BC employment standards.
- Team orientation, collaboration and empowerment.
- Strong leadership, advisory and interpersonal skills. Proven track record as a trusted HR advisor.
- Ability to work on multiple simultaneous complex tasks and under short deadlines.
- Ability to relate and communicate at all levels of the organization and to external groups specifically with indigenous employees and communities.
- Exceptional emotional intelligence and knowledge of cultural sensitivities.
- Ability to engage and influence senior leaders and other key stakeholders.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft office applications plus familiarity with Success Factors and ADP considered an asset.
- Previous experience in mining considered a strong asset
The ideal candidate will also be a self-motivated team player with a good work ethic and a strong attitude toward safety. Strong preference for a candidate residing in BC or Alberta for close proximity to the Mount Milligan mine-site. Work schedule is flexible but preference to 5x2.
