About Mount Milligan Mine

Located approximately 155 kilometres northwest of Prince George in central BC, the Mount Milligan Mine is a conventional truck-shovel open-pit copper and gold mine and concentrator with a 60,000 tpd capacity copper flotation processing plant. 

Mount Milligan operates with comfortable camp accommodations equipped with private washrooms, TV, Wi-Fi, an onsite gym, and other recreational activities. Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from several locations within the region. 

Mount Milligan promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.

About the Opportunity

Mount Milligan is seeking a Supervisor, Mine Maintenance (Shovel and Drill) is responsible for the day-to-day coordination, execution, and frontline leadership of maintenance activities for electric and hydraulic shovels, blasthole drills, and related support equipment. This role ensures safe work practices, high equipment reliability, and effective execution of maintenance plans. The Supervisor works closely with trades personnel, planners, and operations to support maintenance efficiency and equipment availability, escalating complex issues to the Superintendent when required. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enforce compliance with all health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Conduct field-level risk assessments, safety inspections, and toolbox meetings.
  • Participate in incident investigations and assist in implementing corrective actions.
  • Direct and supervise a team of tradespeople, including contractors (mechanics, electricians, welders, contractors).
  • Assign daily work activities based on priorities and available resources.
  • Monitor quality of work and provide coaching, mentorship, and feedback.
  • Support employee development and identify training needs for skill advancement.
  • Provide frontline guidance in diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on shovels and drills.
  • Elevate complex technical challenges to the Superintendent or OEM specialists when necessary.
  • Input, approve, and close work orders in the CMMS (SAP) with accurate details.
  • Maintain an organized backlog of maintenance tasks in coordination with Planning.
  • Promote efficient use of labor, materials, consumables, and contractor support.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce costs while maintaining safety and equipment reliability.

About You

  • Heavy Duty Equipment Technician or related trades program.
  • Interprovincial Red Seal trade certification.
  • BC Mine Supervisor Certificate or willingness to obtain.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • 5 - 8 years of experience in heavy mobile equipment maintenance, preferably in open‑pit mining.
  • Minimum 5 years of supervisory, lead hand, or acting leadership experience.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems for shovels and drills.
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot heavy mobile equipment issues.
  • Proficiency with CMMS platforms (SAP) for work order management.
  • Understanding of preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance practices.
  • Competence in interpreting technical documents, schematics, and OEM specifications.
  • Strong leadership and team‑building abilities, with the ability to coach and motivate trades personnel.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

 

Working Conditions

  • Camp-based role working 12-hour days on a 7 day on/7 day off rotation, with accommodation provided during rotation.
  • Exposure to indoor/outdoor environments, heavy equipment, noise, and moving parts.
  • PPE always required.
  • Safety-sensitive environment with zero-tolerance drug and alcohol policy.
  • Bus transportation provided from regional locations.
