About Mount Milligan Mine

Located approximately 155 kilometres northwest of Prince George in central BC, the Mount Milligan Mine is a conventional truck-shovel open-pit copper and gold mine and concentrator with a 60,000 tpd capacity copper flotation processing plant. 

Mount Milligan operates with comfortable camp accommodations equipped with private washrooms, TV, Wi-Fi, an onsite gym, and other recreational activities. Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from several locations within the region. 

Mount Milligan promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.

About the Opportunity

The Environmental Summer Student will perform environmental monitoring and sampling duties to maintain compliance with site permits and conserve environmental integrity. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to take part in various projects including reclamation, hydrological monitoring, and environmental effects monitoring, among others.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Surface and ground water quality sampling
  • Air quality sampling
  • Hydrological monitoring
  • Environmental effects monitoring (ie. fish population studies, wildlife monitoring, etc.)
  • Data entry, management, and analysis
  • Field gear maintenance
  • Support and involvement in Safety programs on a daily basis

 

About You

    • Must be enrolled in an Environment related field of study and returning to University in the fall
    • Strong work and safety ethic
    • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office)
    • Good social, communication, organizational and presentation skills
    • Current drivers’ license
    • First aid or other certificates considered a bonus
    • Ability to perform labor tasks, such as hiking or carrying heavy equipment in various environmental conditions
    • Valid driver’s license
    • Excellent report writing skills and high degree of computer literacy
    • Strong analytical skills

 

Working Conditions

  • Camp-based role working 12-hour days on a 14 day on/14 day off rotation, with accommodation provided during rotation.
  • Exposure to indoor/outdoor environments, heavy equipment, noise, and moving parts.
  • PPE always required.
  • Safety-sensitive environment with zero-tolerance drug and alcohol policy.
  • Bus transportation provided from regional locations.
