About Mount Milligan Mine
Located approximately 155 kilometres northwest of Prince George in central BC, the Mount Milligan Mine is a conventional truck-shovel open-pit copper and gold mine and concentrator with a 60,000 tpd capacity copper flotation processing plant.
Mount Milligan operates with comfortable camp accommodations equipped with private washrooms, TV, Wi-Fi, an onsite gym, and other recreational activities. Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from several locations within the region.
Mount Milligan promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.
About the Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a General Foreperson, Mine Operations to join our Mount Milligan Mine team.
The General Foreperson is responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant execution of open pit mining and Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) operations. This role provides leadership and oversight of daily activities, ensuring alignment between mine production and TSF requirements while achieving safety, environmental, quality, cost, and production targets.
This role supervises and develops crews, coordinates resources and schedules, and collaborates with cross‑functional teams to optimize performance. This position also supports continuous improvement initiatives, workforce development, and operational planning, while acting as a delegate for the Mine Superintendent as required.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership & Execution
- Oversee day‑to‑day operations of both the open pit mine and TSF, including coordination of crew activities.
- Plan, prioritize, and execute deployment of personnel and equipment to meet operational requirements.
- Manage activities such as clearing, excavation, dewatering, material placement, road maintenance, and stockpiling.
- Monitor and adjust plans to meet monthly and annual production targets.
- Ability to make quick changes for operational needs.
- Assist the Mine Superintendent and act in their capacity as required.
TSF Management & Engineering Compliance
- Ensure compliance with TSF design criteria, including material placement, compaction, and segregation.
- Maintain adherence to engineering requirements and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) standards.
- Coordinate TSF construction activities with mine production requirements.
Safety & Environmental Leadership
- Promote and enforce compliance with all corporate, site, and regulatory health, safety, and environmental requirements.
- Build and present monthly safety meeting presentation for the mine ops team.
- Identify hazards, promote safe work practices, and lead by example (including PPE compliance).
- Ensure incidents are properly investigated, reported, and corrective actions are implemented.
- Increase safety awareness and proactively manage risk.
Production & Continuous Improvement
- Achieve or exceed production targets for ore, waste, and pit development.
- Review operational performance data and implement improvements to enhance safety, efficiency, and cost control.
- Recommend and implement improvements to production methods, equipment utilization, and working conditions.
Workforce Leadership & Development
- Lead, coach, and develop a high‑performing team of supervisors and operators.
- Provide regular feedback, coaching, and performance evaluations.
- Manage employee relations issues, resolve conflicts, and escalate where required.
- Identify training needs and support employee development and progression.
- Ensure training programs and progression plans are executed effectively.
Planning, Coordination & Communication
- Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, training, safety, environmental, and other departments.
- Coordinate production needs with maintenance schedules to support fleet reliability.
- Maintain clear and effective communication across all levels of the operation.
Administration & Performance Management
- Conduct performance reviews, probation assessments, and workforce evaluations.
- Ensure accurate documentation of activities, performance, and compliance requirements.
- Maintain strong time management and organizational discipline to meet deadlines.
General Duties
- Perform additional related duties as assigned to support operational and organizational objectives.
About You
Our ideal candidate will possess the following skillset and experience:
- Shift Boss Ticket, required.
- 5+ years experience in open pit mining operations and/or large-scale construction environments.
- Experience managing crews, equipment fleets, and production activities.
- Strong knowledge of tailings dam construction and open pit mining principles and engineering requirements.
- Familiarity with operating mobile mining and construction equipment (e.g., CAT haul trucks, dozers, loaders, excavators, cable shovels).
- Knowledge in power cable handling and layout planning for shovel/drill moves.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
- Strong leadership and team development capabilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and time‑management abilities.
- High attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong commitment to safety and operational excellence.
Working Conditions
- Camp-based role working 12-hour days on a 14 day on, 14 day off rotation, with accommodation provided during rotation.
- Exposure to indoor/outdoor environments, heavy equipment, noise, and moving parts.
- PPE always required.
- Safety-sensitive environment with zero-tolerance drug and alcohol policy.
- Bus transportation provided from regional locations.
