About Mount Milligan Mine

Located approximately 155 kilometres northwest of Prince George in central BC, the Mount Milligan Mine is a conventional truck-shovel open-pit copper and gold mine and concentrator with a 60,000 tpd capacity copper flotation processing plant. 

Mount Milligan operates with comfortable camp accommodations equipped with private washrooms, TV, Wi-Fi, an onsite gym, and other recreational activities. Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from several locations within the region. 

Mount Milligan promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.

About the Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a Project Metallurgist to join our Mount Milligan Mine (MTM) operations site.

This role operates on a rotation of 14 days on / 14 days off at a 12-hour daily schedule with camp accommodations provided. 

The Project Metallurgist plays a key role in developing, optimizing, and delivering metallurgical solutions across all stages of mineral processing projects. This position is responsible for designing and executing metallurgical test programs, adjust process flowsheets, and generating the data and technical criteria required to support scoping through feasibility studies. Working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, operations personnel, and external laboratories, the Project Metallurgist ensures that project deliverables meet scope, schedule, cost, and safety expectations.

The role involves detailed data analysis, mass balancing, process modeling, and the preparation of technical reports that guide project decisions and process design. The Project Metallurgist also contributes to risk assessments, supports commissioning activities, and provides troubleshooting expertise to improve plant performance. Strong project management skills, technical competence in mineral processing, and effective communication are essential for success in this role. This position typically requires a degree in Metallurgical, Mineral Processing, or Chemical Engineering, along with industry experience in modern mineral processing and metallurgical testing.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Analyze metallurgical data and interpret results to guide process improvements.
  • Support site capital project development.
  • Ensure project deliverables meet scope, schedule, cost, and safety standards.
  • Support commissioning and ramp-up, including metallurgical accounting and performance tests.
  • Lead risk assessments, HAZOP/HAZID, and operability reviews.
  • Collaborate with engineering disciplines (mechanical, process, mining, geology, instrumentation, automation).
  • Evaluate and report progress on improvements project.
  • Support daily metallurgical operation in period of high demand.

About You

The following will be critical to successfully perform this role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Mineral Processing, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • 4 –7+ years of experience in mineral processing, metallurgy, or process engineering (range varies by seniority).
  • Experience in project management, successful delivery.
  • Professional engineering designation or capacity to obtain.

Working Conditions

  • Work involves a camp-based role at the Mount Milligan Mine site with a set work schedule on a 14x14, 12 hours per day.
  • Candidates must be able to maintain high levels of performance for extended shifts, up to 12 hours in duration.
  • Occasional exposure to hazardous environments with the requirement of wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Mount Milligan is a safety-sensitive environment and promotes a drug & alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a ZERO – TOLERANCE policy, with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs/paraphernalia on site.
  • Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from Prince George, Fort St. James and Mackenzie.
