About Mount Milligan Mine

Located approximately 155 kilometres northwest of Prince George in central BC, the Mount Milligan Mine is a conventional truck-shovel open-pit copper and gold mine and concentrator with a 60,000 tpd capacity copper flotation processing plant. 

Mount Milligan operates with comfortable camp accommodations equipped with private washrooms, TV, Wi-Fi, an onsite gym, and other recreational activities. Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from several locations within the region. 

Mount Milligan promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.

About the Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for an Senior Metallurgist to join our Mount Milligan Mine (MTM) operations site.

This role operates on a rotation of 14 days on / 14 days off at a 12-hour daily schedule with camp accommodations provided. 

The Senior Metallurgist will report to the Superintendent, Metallurgy and will be responsible to lead the shift Metallurgists/Technicians and provide technical support to the Mill Operations team.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Direct supervision of Plant Metallurgists, Junior Metallurgists, and Metallurgical Technicians. Ensure all employees work safely in accordance with applicable legislation, company policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Plan and schedule metallurgical work plan to meet departmental goals, KPIs, project milestones, and deadlines.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to Metallurgists/Technicians under direct supervision.
  • Monitor and report on plant performance, identify sources of variability and make recommendations for improvements to increase stability and efficiency.
  • Conduct investigations, test work, and technical projects to maintain performance and identify opportunities to exceed targets.
  • Support assay lab personnel through QAQC monitoring, recommendations, and spreadsheet provisions.
  • Maintain quality control programs within the plant and onsite laboratory.
  • Take lead on complex technical projects and guide Metallurgists & Metallurgical Technicians to support these projects.
  • Lead equipment inspections and ensure safety of the team while performing inspections.
  • Support Mill Operations Supervisors and provide technical recommendations.
  • Approve schedule changes and vacation for Plant Metallurgists, Junior Metallurgists, and Metallurgical Technicians.
  • Aid in hiring for Metallurgy team.
  • Demonstrates advanced proficiency in utilizing various management tools and systems essential for operations, such as SAP, TapRooT, MOC (Management of Change), etc.

About You

The following will be critical to successfully perform this role:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mineral Processing, Metallurgy, Materials, or Chemical) or equivalent
  • Registered member, or qualified to register, with EGBC
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience and competency in mineral processing, specifically with comminution and copper/gold flotation experience, preferably 8+ years of experience. 
  • Class 5 driver’s license
  • Industrial experience and a demonstrated ability to work safely and be a safety champion
  • Leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Strong statistical analysis, presentation, and technical report writing skills
  • Strong computer skills, proficient with MS Office suite and basic programming
  • Strong communication, organizational, and team building skills
  • Integrity, focus, and a good work ethic
  • Proven ability to analyze complex problems, prioritize issues, and develop timely and cost-effective solutions
  • Requirement to meet pre-employment testing 

Working Conditions

  • Work involves a camp-based role at the Mount Milligan Mine site with a set work schedule on a 14x14, 12 hours per day
  • Candidates must be able to maintain high levels of performance for extended shifts, up to 12 hours in duration
  • Occasional exposure to hazardous environments with the requirement of wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Mount Milligan is a safety-sensitive environment and promotes a drug & alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a ZERO – TOLERANCE policy, with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs/paraphernalia on site
  • Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from Prince George, Fort St. James and Mackenzie
