About Mount Milligan Mine
Located approximately 155 kilometres northwest of Prince George in central BC, the Mount Milligan Mine is a conventional truck-shovel open-pit copper and gold mine and concentrator with a 60,000 tpd capacity copper flotation processing plant.
Mount Milligan operates with comfortable camp accommodations equipped with private washrooms, TV, Wi-Fi, an onsite gym, and other recreational activities. Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from several locations within the region.
Mount Milligan promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.
About the Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for an Technician, HEO to join our Mount Milligan Mine (MTM) operations site.
This role operates on a rotation of 7 days on / 7 days off at a 12-hour daily schedule with camp accommodations provided.
Reporting to the Mine Operations Supervisor the Technician, HEO is responsible for the safe, efficient, and responsible operation of heavy equipment in an open‑pit mining environment. This role supports production targets by operating haul trucks, dozers, excavators, graders, and other mobile equipment, while maintaining a strong focus on safety, operational integrity, and environmental stewardship.
The Technician ensures equipment is operated in accordance with established procedures, performs routine inspections, and reports mechanical issues to support reliability and minimize downtime. This role also contributes to continuous improvement initiatives and collaborates with maintenance and operations teams to ensure optimal performance across the mining operation.
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Equipment Operation:
- Operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently, including, but not limited to:
- Haul trucks (CAT 777, 789, 793)
- Dozers (CAT D6, D8, D10)
- Excavators (CAT 329, 349, 395)
- Graders (CAT 16M, 24M)
- Loaders (988)
- Follow established haul routes, traffic patterns, and site procedures to ensure safe operation.
Inspection & Equipment Care:
- Perform pre‑shift and post‑shift inspections and complete daily equipment reports.
- Identify and report mechanical issues or unsafe conditions to supervisors and maintenance personnel.
- Maintain equipment cleanliness and adhere to housekeeping standards.
- Ensure proper use, storage, and security of assigned equipment.
Safety & Compliance:
- Adhere to all company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Actively participate in safety programs, hazard identification, and risk mitigation activities.
- Maintain situational awareness of site conditions, including road hazards, weather, and equipment traffic.
Operational Support:
- Assist in achieving departmental targets related to safety, production, quality, and cost control.
- Support operational integrity through responsible equipment use and adherence to best practices.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and efficiency.
Teamwork & Communication:
- Collaborate with team members, supervisors, and maintenance personnel.
- Communicate effectively regarding equipment performance, site conditions, and operational concerns.
- Demonstrate a positive attitude and contribute to a team-oriented work environment.
About You
The following will be critical to successfully perform this role:
- 3+ years of experience working with heavy equipment
- Possession of a commercial driver’s license, Class 5 required
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experienced operating haul trucks, dozers, excavators, and graders (CAT models preferred)
- Strong understanding of heavy equipment operation, controls, and safe operating procedures
- Ability to conduct inspections and identify mechanical issues
- Familiarity with mine site traffic rules, hazards, and operating conditions
- Strong commitment to safety and compliance
- Attention to detail and ability to remain alert throughout shifts
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and reliable attendance record
- Problem-solving mindset and willingness to participate in continuous improvement
Working Conditions
- Work involves a camp-based role at the Mount Milligan Mine site with a set work schedule on a 7x7, 12 hours per day
- Candidates must be able to maintain high levels of performance for extended shifts, up to 12 hours in duration
- Occasional exposure to hazardous environments with the requirement of wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Mount Milligan is a safety-sensitive environment and promotes a drug & alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a ZERO – TOLERANCE policy, with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs/paraphernalia on site
