About the Kemess Mine

Kemess is located in north-central British Columbia, approximately 250 km north of Smithers and 430 km northwest of Prince George, with fly-in access. The property is host to the former Kemess South (KS) Mine, the Kemess Underground (KUG) deposit, and the Kemess East (KE) deposit. 

Existing on-site infrastructure includes offices, warehouse, laydowns, maintenance facilities, a 300-person accommodation camp footprint, crushed ore stockpile and reclaim, access and service roads, an airstrip, explosives magazines, and an electrical substation.
 
Kemess Mine promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.
 

About the Opportunity

We have an opportunity for a full-time Technician, Equipment Operator to join our Kemess Mine operations site. This position requires union membership under the International Union of Operating Engineers. 

This is a camp-based position, with a rotation of 14 days on / 14 days off, with a 12-hour daily schedule. 

Reporting to the Site Services Supervisor, the Equipment Operator will be responsible for safely and efficiently operating a variety of equipment. In addition to properly operating the equipment, you will also be responsible for inspecting, providing preventative maintenance checks, and occasionally repairing equipment when required. This position is part of a unionized workforce and is subject to the terms and conditions of the collective bargaining agreement. 

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Operate various pieces of large equipment (loader, excavator, grader, dozer, etc.) in accordance with company procedures and safety regulations.
  • Ensure proper operation of equipment by performing regular checks on their functionality.
  • Document regular maintenance checks to maintain adequate records of equipment performance.
  • Provide preventative maintenance checks to ensure equipment is safe and operating properly.
  • Regularly clean equipment to preserve its quality and functionality.
  • Perform minor repairs on equipment issues.
  • Report needs for larger repairs to the appropriate parties.
  • Commit to the overall safety of the work environment by always taking extra precautions to work with the utmost care and consideration.
  • Willing and capable of performing manual labor and other tasks on site as required. 

About You

To qualify for this role, the following skillset and experience will be critical to successfully performing this role:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of experience working with heavy equipment.
  • Possession of a valid class 5 Canadian Driver’s License.
  • Knowledge of proper operation of heavy equipment.  
  • Proven Safety and attendance record.
  • Ability to maintain, inspect, clean, and occasionally repair pieces of heavy equipment.
  • Strong work ethic and physical ability to lift 50+ pounds.
  • Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements.
