About the Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a Manager, Finance to join our team in Goldfield District Project in Goldfield, Nevada.
Reporting to the VP & General Manager, Goldfield, the Manager, Finance is the site’s senior finance leader, owning financial planning & analysis (FP&A), accounting operations, and finance process improvement for the site – acting, in effect, as the site controller. The incumbent leads the monthly and quarterly close, annual budget, quarterly forecasts and long-term (life-of-mine) value models for our Goldfield site, ensures the integrity of site financial reporting and internal controls, and drives continuous improvement of finance processes and systems at site.
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Own the site’s accounting function – including the monthly and quarterly close, journal entries, accruals, and G/L account reconciliations – providing coaching and support to the accounting team.
- Review and approve the work of the Finance team, ensuring the accuracy, completeness and timeliness of Goldfield’s accounting records and reported financial results.
- Oversee the proper design and operation of SOX-404 controls at site, partnering with the corporate finance team on testing and remediation.
- Serve as the site interface to the corporate accounts payable team, owning the site side of the procure-to-pay cycle including goods receipt, invoice approval and vendor queries.
- Oversee site cash management controls and the completeness of period-end accruals for received but uninvoiced goods and services.
- With Supply Chain and Operations, verify contractor progress claims against measured quantities and the contract rate schedule, including owner-supplied diesel and explosives.
- Serve as the primary site contact for internal and external auditors on accounting matters, and ensure site results are accurately reflected in corporate consolidated reporting.
- Design and maintain monthly reports of site operations for site leadership, including in advance of any new operations start-up.
Financial Planning & Analysis (Budgeting & Forecasting)
- Lead preparation of Goldfield’s annual budget, quarterly forecasts, and long-term (life-of-mine) plans, working closely with mine planning, operations, engineering and other site departments.
- Serve as the site’s primary point of contact for forecasting and budgeting questions, maintaining close communication with the corporate FP&A team.
- Develop and maintain a detailed plan and timeline for the quarterly forecast update and annual budget cycle, and hold site department leads accountable to those timelines.
- Coordinate compilation and presentation of Goldfield’s forecast and budget materials as part of Centerra’s defined budget and planning cycle.
- Provide financial analysis and decision support to site leadership on operating performance, cost trends and capital allocation, including support for any active capital projects at site.
- Support scenario analysis to evaluate mine plan iterations, capex trade-offs and other project or operational value drivers as necessary.
Project-to-Operations Transition
- Partner with corporate Finance on the application of the capitalization policy at site, including the commercial production determination and its supporting documentation.
- Establish site cost centres, cost element mapping and cost control reporting ahead of first ore.
- Ensure the project control budget reconciles to the site operating cost structure, with no duplication between project capital and site operating costs.
- Build the site cost capture and accrual process prior to start-up.
Process Improvement & Team Leadership
- Act as the site controller: drive documentation of existing and new finance processes and procedures, and develop recommendations for accounting and FP&A process improvement and adoption of best practices.
- Lead, coach and develop the site finance team including workload allocation, performance management and professional development.
- Champion effective use of finance systems (e.g., SAP) at site, identifying opportunities to streamline transactional processes and strengthen controls.
- Enhance the quality, automation and visualization of site financial reporting and data to support decision-making by site leadership.
- Build strong working relationships across site departments (operations, mine planning, engineering, HR) and with the corporate finance team to ensure smooth, timely flow of information.
