About the Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a Superintendent, Mine to join our Goldfield Project team located in Goldfield, Nevada.
The Mine Superintendent is responsible for providing technical oversight and quality assurance of the mining activities executed by the site's contract mining company, acting as the primary technical interface between Centerra and the mining contractor. The role has direct accountability for mine dewatering, with a particular focus on safe and efficient ore production, ore handling and placement, and coordination with heap leach processing operations.
Reporting to the Manager, Technical Services, the Mine Superintendent does not directly operate the mine but ensures the contract mining company executes the mine plan in accordance with the safety, environmental, quality, cost, and schedule requirements established by Centerra. The position supervises one direct report, a Mine Supervisor, who provides field-level follow-up of the contractor's activities.
The role requires an experienced technical professional with a strong background in overseeing or auditing contract mining operations, open-pit mining, mine water management, and dewatering. The successful candidate will work closely with Engineering, Geology, Processing/Metallurgy, Maintenance, Environmental, and other site functions to ensure the contract mining company's activities support overall site production objectives.
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Act as Centerra's technical focal point with the contract mining company, ensuring executed activities are aligned with the mine plan and site production targets.
- Provide technical oversight of the contractor's execution of drilling, blasting, loading, hauling, waste movement, and stockpile management, ensuring adherence to the mine plan, technical standards, and Centerra's production targets.
- Monitor and audit the contractor's performance against production, quality, schedule, and cost KPIs, escalating deviations and requiring corrective action plans.
- Be directly accountable for mine dewatering activities, ensuring water levels are effectively managed to support safe and efficient mining.
- Coordinate mining activities with processing requirements to ensure the appropriate quantity, quality, and timing of ore delivery to the heap leach operation.
- Work closely with the Technical Services team to identify and address operational constraints and ensure effective execution of the mine plan.
- Ensure the contractor's production activities are aligned with short- and medium-term mine plans and site production targets.
- Identify opportunities to improve the reliability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness of site dewatering infrastructure and practices.
- Develop and execute dewatering strategies in coordination with Engineering, Environmental, and other site functions.
- Audit and monitor the contract mining company's adherence to Centerra's HSE standards, participating in joint inspections and reviewing contractor safety performance indicators (e.g., TRIFR, near-miss reporting).
- Supervise the Mine Supervisor (direct report), directing technical follow-up and field-level oversight of the contractor's activities.
- Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives with the contractor that enhance safety, productivity, equipment utilization, and overall mine performance.
- Promote effective communication and collaboration between the mining contractor and the broader site organization.
- Work closely with Processing and Metallurgy to ensure mining and heap leach operations are effectively integrated.
- Provide technical support to the administration of the mining contract; commercial and contractual management remains with Contracts/Supply Chain.
About You
Our ideal candidate will possess the following:
- 8+ years of progressive mining experience, including experience overseeing or auditing contract mining operations in open-pit environments.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience overseeing drilling, blasting, loading, hauling, waste movement, ore management, and stockpiling activities.
- Demonstrated experience with mine dewatering systems and water management in an open-pit mining environment.
- Experience working closely with processing, metallurgy, engineering, geology, maintenance, and environmental teams.
- Experience acting as a technical or owner's representative overseeing contractor-operated mining activities.
- Demonstrated understanding of short- and medium-term mine planning and production scheduling.
- Strong understanding of mine safety, regulatory, and environmental requirements.
- Demonstrated experience monitoring contractor production performance, operating costs, and KPIs against contractual and technical targets.
- Experience with mine planning, fleet management, dispatch, or operational reporting systems is considered an asset.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and decision-making skills.
