About Mount Milligan Mine
Located approximately 155 kilometres northwest of Prince George in central BC, the Mount Milligan Mine is a conventional truck-shovel open-pit copper and gold mine and concentrator with a 60,000 tpd capacity copper flotation processing plant.
Mount Milligan operates with comfortable camp accommodations equipped with private washrooms, TV, Wi-Fi, an onsite gym, and other recreational activities. Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from several locations within the region.
Mount Milligan promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.
About the Opportunity
As a member of the British Columbia based Mount Milligan Exploration team, the Lead Exploration Geological Technician will be responsible for the accuracy and collection of all data associated with the mechanical properties of drill core including recovery and RQD, specific gravity, magnetic susceptibility etc. and completing field work such as downhole gyro surveys, surface sample collection, and collar staking. In addition, the lead position will be responsible for the training and mentorship of the geotechnical team on their shift. This position is a 9-month Fixed-Term Contract. The regular schedule for this position is 14 days on, 14 days off, 12-hour days.
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Adhere to all mine safety regulations and site policies
- Assisting the Geological Technicians with ensuring geotechnical data is captured accurately and efficiently
- Training and mentorship of the geotechnical team on the same shift
- Generating sample shipment documentation and working with the core cutters to prepare and send sample shipments
- Collecting data by taking measurements for specific gravity, point load strength, and magnetic susceptibility of the drill core
- Recording recovery & RQD
- Converting measurements (feet to meters) and labeling core boxes, footage blocks and aluminum tags
- Washing and photography of drill core
- Piecing core together and marking mechanical breaks
- Drawing orientation lines and cut lines as needed
- Conducting systematic pXRF sampling of select drill holes
- Entering data into AcQuire database
- Assist with core cutting and sampling as needed
- Moving core from processing and logging facilities to storage areas
- Conduct downhole surveys and maintenance of the survey equipment
- General housekeeping/cleaning inside/outside core shack
- Field work such as flagging access trails, collar surveys/ staking, rock grab sampling, mapping, and soil sampling as required
- Conducting daily drill site and weekly workplace inspections as required
- Organization of pulp samples into storage facilities
- Participate in daily toolbox meetings and weekly safety meetings
- Performs any other responsibilities related to the Geotech role as required or as assigned by the department head
About You
The following will be critical to successfully perform this role:
- Any post-secondary Geological Technician courses preferred
- Working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office and the geodatabase software AcQuire
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions when required
- Conducting work in a manner promoting safety to themselves and others
- Valid Canadian Driver’s License
- Capable of lifting core boxes up to 40 lbs
- Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements.
