About the Opportunity

The Senior Manager, Projects Procurement is responsible for leading the development and execution of procurement plans for Centerra’s projects. The role delivers solutions tailored to specific needs of distinct mining projects while developing a consistent project delivery approach consistent with Centerra’s policies and overarching objectives. The role partners with Corporate, Projects and Site stakeholders, to ensure delivery of value for each project in different phases (exploration, development, operation, care and maintenance). The Senior Manager, Projects Procurement reports to the Director, Global Supply Chain and will work closely with the VP, Major Projects. This role entails both direct execution and managerial accountabilities, with temporary reports as required to address projects’ demands surges.

The preferred location for this position is Toronto, ON, with the potential for remote candidates across North America.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Strategy Development and Execution: Develop and implement procurement plans tailored to specific mining projects, balancing delivery agility and risk management, anticipating and addressing complex challenges through expertise and innovative thinking.
  • Contracts: Oversee the lifecycle of contracts, managing key milestones that align with project timelines and budgets. Conduct and oversee bidders list preparation, pre-qualifications, bidding, evaluations, negotiations, awarding, performance and change management, claim and dispute resolution, closing.
  • Expertise: Prepare business cases/recommendations with evidence of supporting research and benchmarking, demonstrate influencing skills with presentation quality. Take holistic approach and deploy various commercial approaches and contract/relationship types to optimize value to projects. Leverage knowledge of contract law and market practices to lead and advance contracts drafting.
  • Team Leadership: Mentor stakeholders in the Corporate Supply Chain and Projects organizations, focusing on project delivery which optimizes value while observing project constraints. Manage any temporary staffing, as needed by the Major Projects team, to deliver project’s procurement services demands.
  • Best practices & standardization: Develop, implement, and support best practices across all stages of project procurement delivery, maintaining a repository of resources for projects.
  • Governance and Compliance: Ensure project procurement activities comply with regulations and company policies (initiating corrective actions if needed). Adhere to high standards of bidding and contracting practices (including accurate auditable documentation) and reporting.
  • Risk management: Identify, assess, and develop strategies to mitigate and monitor project risks.
  • Continuous Improvement Identify opportunities to streamline contract processes and improve efficiency in contract management practices.

About You

The following will be critical to successfully performing this role:

  • Post-secondary education in business, finance, supply chain, law, engineering, or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in contract management in a Major Projects team environment with cross-functional relationships.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience within the contracting function.
  • Strong negotiation, oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in the mining, EPCM, construction, or engineering sectors is required.
  • Experience in SAP is preferred, but not required.
  • Extensive knowledge of procurement processes, policies, and best practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent negotiation and contract management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and procurement software.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
