About the Opportunity

We have an opportunity for a Coordinator, Social Performance to join the Centerra Corporate team. The role will be based in BC (with preference given to applicants located in the projects sites region - central BC) with frequent travel to the Mount Milligan, Endako and Kemess mine sites, as well as surrounding regional communities.

This role will provide support to Centerra’s BC sites (Mount Milligan, Kemess and Endako) to promote our social performance and license to operate with our partner communities.

The role will be responsible to support the Manager, Social Performance with day-to-day queries and issues related to Centerra Gold’s external relations and social performance in British Columbia, as well as support community engagement, communications and social compliance projects, as directed. The Coordinator will also be assisting with the implementation of Centerra Gold’s community investment initiatives in British Columbia.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Understand the Company’s sustainability commitments in British Columbia, especially those made to local government and Indigenous groups, which includes understanding all Impact Benefit Agreements, Environmental Assessment Social Conditions and/or any other formal agreements with external parties. 
  • Assist the Manager, Social Performance in the implementation and roll-out of the Centerra stakeholder database and complete routine data entry of consultation and engagement activities into the database.
  • Contribute to positive external relationships with individuals, businesses, and community-based organizations that support the Company’s outreach efforts and its Community Policy.
  • Support the implementation of the Company’s community engagement and community investment programs in British Columbia, and ensure timely reporting on these programs, as required.  
  • Coordinate, facilitate and/or participate in community, government and First Nations meetings with guidance from the Manager, Social Performance when required, that may be relevant to or affect the Company’s business interests. This includes developing meeting presentation materials, taking minutes and tracking action items through to completion.
  • Provide support as required to the Manager, Social Performance and the Specialist, Environmental and Social Compliance to ensure Company compliance with all agreements with Indigenous groups in British Columbia, including coordinating, and when required, attending, facilitating and/or participating in Committee and other meetings.
  • Coordinate and support the consultation requirements of permitting and/or compliance activities for Mount Milligan, Endako and Kemess.
  • Provide data and information to the Manager, Social Performance for developing routine and ad-hoc reports on social compliance and/or community engagement and investment, including the Company’s annual Sustainability reports.
  • Assist the Manager, Social Performance with proposals, scopes of work and RFP’s related the preparation of annual budgets for all Company sustainability activities in British Columbia.
  • Provide data and information to the Manager, Social Performance related to sustainability goals, objectives, commitments and programs and communicate both internally and externally about the development, implementation and outcomes of these programs, as needed.
  • Support training programs designed to increase education and awareness of Centerra’s sustainability goals, objectives and commitments.
  • Coordinate the development of Company communication materials, including drafting content for the Senior Coordinator as well as working with external suppliers/consultants.   
  • Represent the Company at special events and conferences.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager, Social Performance with integrity, competence and with a sense of urgency.

About You

The following will be critical to successfully performing this role:

  • Relevant degree specializing in business management / commerce, sustainability, communications, environmental science or management
  • 3-5 year(s) of professional experience in junior to intermediate roles in social compliance management in the mining or extractives industry. Strong preference will be given to applicants with operational mining experience in BC.  
  • Excellent cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills and interest and experience in managing compliance and social software programs.  
  • Strong curiosity about social compliance, ESG, mining and the global extractives sector.  
  • A knowledge of the Canadian environmental and mining regulatory framework and permitting regime is preferred.
  • This position will be based in BC; with frequent travel to Mount Milligan, Endako, Kemess and regional communities required.
  • The position is expected to work 40 hours per week; however, significant time will be spent working out of the office and a flexible approach to the work schedule will be required.
  • Work outside of normal work hours/days will be frequently required, and may include evenings, holidays and weekends.
