About the Opportunity

We have an opportunity for a Ferro Operator to join our Centerra Langeloth team. This role is responsible for overseeing the production and refining of oxide. This role is also responsible for conducting quality checks and tests on samples to ensure they meet required specifications and standards.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepares pit area and sets steel rings for next burns. 
  • Shovels sand against reaction pots to prevent breakout of molten slag and metal.
  • Climbs stairs to 4th floor to check level of ingredients in bins.
  • Uses electronic scale to prepare heat mixes.  May have to hammer on bin with 5 lb. sledgehammer to free any hang ups. 
  • Transfer mixes to mix hoppers. 
  • Dumps up to 80 lb. bags of aluminum, lime, spar or other additives at the mix station. 
  • Uses overhead crane to transfer mixes to smelting pots, lift the reaction pots and pull pots and slag has been decanted. 
  • Makes starter mixes by shoveling ingredients into wheeled hopper. 
  • Lights heats with starter mix or with 10-foot metal ladle of hot slag, and controls feed of mix to burning heat once lit.
  • Responsible to tap out of burning process.
  • Digs sand to open heats for cooling. 
  • Uses overhead crane and tongs to remove hot buttons from the sand pits. 
  • Shovels sand and slag to clean pit area.   
  • Removes any skulls in the pits using shovels and tongs. 
  • Uses 6-foot iron bar to remove slag caps and to chisel skulls from the buttons. 
  • Transfers clean buttons to storage crates.
  • Crush buttons to size. 
  • Clean and maintain crushing line.
  • Uses shovel and broom to clean area. 
  • Drives dump truck to haul slag pans to slag dump.
  • Pack finished product in bags, cans, and drums.
  • Unload materials and parts from transportation vessels using appropriate equipment such as forklifts.
  • Inspect incoming materials for quality and compliance with established procedure and specifications.
  • Stays up to date on industry best practices and refresher trainings throughout the year of all SOP’s and JSA’s.
  • Other duties as assigned.

About You

The following will be critical to successfully performing this role:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and ability to follow safety guidelines.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to operate machinery.
  • Ability to work in a potentially hazardous environment.
  • One year of related experience in a manufacturing environment.
