About the Opportunity

As a member of the British Columbia based Mount Milligan Exploration team, the Exploration Geologist will be responsible for assessing lithology, alteration, mineralization, and structure in drill core from a silica-saturated alkalic Cu-Au porphyry deposit and accurately entering this data into an AcQuire database. They will be required to use Leapfrog software to complete drill hole summaries and generate geological interpretations on paper cross-sections. The Exploration Geologist will also assist with the management of up to two diamond drill rigs and the completion of field tasks, including drill line-ups, drill shutdowns, rig inspections, surface sampling, and collar staking and surveying. 

This role is a fixed-term contract approximately 155 kilometres Northwest of Prince George, British Columbia. The work schedule is 14 days on, 14 days off, 12-hour Shifts.     

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Assessing lithology, alteration, mineralization, and structure in drill core from a silica-saturated alkalic Cu-Au porphyry deposit
  • Responsible for the accuracy and input of drill core data into an AcQuire database and field data into an ArcPro project
  • Utilizing Leapfrog Central and Leapfrog Geo to view deposit and drill hole data
  • Management of up to two diamond drill rigs, which includes ensuring the safety of the drill sites and drill contractors, pre, during, and post, site visits, line-ups, and shutdowns
  • Generate paper cross sections of logged drill holes
  • Write end-of-hole summaries for logged drill holes
  • Conduct systematic pXRF and Terraspec sampling of select drill holes
  • Field work such as flagging access trails, collar surveys/staking, rock grab sampling, mapping, and soil sampling as required
  • Liaison with the contract drill team daily
  • Conducting daily drill site inspections and weekly workplace inspections as required
  • Working in conjunction with the Geological Technicians, process the core efficiently
  • Technical geological desktop studies as required
  • Participate in daily toolbox meetings and weekly safety meetings
  • Moving core from processing and logging facilities to storage areas
  • Assist with the organization of pulp samples into storage facilities as needed
  • General housekeeping/cleaning inside/outside core shack as required
  • Adhere to all mine safety regulations and site policies

About You

The following will be critical to successfully perform this role:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Geology or a Geology-related field 
  • Registration as a G.I.T with EGBC preferred
  • 1-3 year(s) exploration experience
  • Working knowledge and experience with geological databases, GIS systems, or modelling applications (ArcGIS, MapInfo, Leapfrog, ioGAS, AcQuire) is considered an asset
  • Experience working in porphyry deposits preferred
  • Valid Canadian Driver’s License
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions
  • Capable of lifting core boxes up to 40 lbs.
  • Conducting work in a manner promoting safety to themselves and others
