About the Opportunity
We have an opportunity for a full-time Tax Analyst to join our corporate team on a hybrid work model in Vancouver, BC.
Reporting to the Manager, Tax, this position, will play a key role in supporting the corporate tax function for Centerra, focusing on Canadian and US tax compliance, tax research, and supporting audits and special projects. This position is ideal for someone with strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and an interest in the mining industry. The role requires the development of cross-functional relationships and interaction with people at all levels of the organization.
Your main responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Tax Compliance & Reporting
- Prepare Canadian income tax returns and information returns (T2, T106, T1135, T1134, CbCR, T4A-NR, T4A, T5, NR4) with supporting workpapers, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Prepare US information returns (Form 1099 MISC & NEC, FBAR) with supporting workpapers.
- Prepare workpapers for US income tax compliance as requested by external advisors and respond to related inquiries.
- Assist with BC mineral tax return and BC exploration account filings.
- Review and/or prepare GST and PST returns (monthly, quarterly, annually), advise on accounting adjustments, and ensure timely filing and remittance.
- Calculate unrealized/realized FX gains/losses on intercompany loans and prepare quarterly memos on unrealized FX gains/losses.
- Review invoices for Regulation 105 purposes, calculate Reg 105 withholding tax, review Reg 105 GL account monthly, and coordinate payment requests as needed.
- Calculate estimated BC mineral tax return instalments quarterly and prepare monthly instalment payment requests for approval.
- Calculate BC mineral tax interest as required.
- Conduct tax research on new issues relevant to the company’s operations.
- Assist with transfer pricing documentation information requests
- Audit & Review Support
- Assist with tax audits and reviews, including gathering source documents, investigating transactions, and preparing workpapers.
- Review and investigate GST/HST recovery claims to ensure proper recoveries.
- Perform additional tasks as requested, such as rebate claims, surplus calculations, quarter-end/year-end tasks, and ad hoc assignments.
About You
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
- University graduate with a degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
- 3+ years of relevant tax experience, ideally in a corporate or public accounting environment. Mining industry experience would be considered an asset.
- Professional designation or working towards one (CPA) would be an asset.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian tax compliance, and US tax compliance knowledge preferred.
- Strong technical and analytical skills.
- High attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Decision making and problem-solving skills.
- Strong work ethic with the ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Ability to work as a team and across functions within the organization.
- Highly proficient at Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word and tax preparation software.
