About Thompson Creek Mine

The Thompson Creek Mine is a primary, surface molybdenum mine and mill located approximately 48 kilometres southwest of the town of Challis in Idaho's Custer County.

In operations since 1983, the mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods with large electric-powered shovels that can each move up to 100,000 tons of waste rock and ore per day.

Thompson Creek Mine promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.

About The Opportunity

We are looking for a Manager, Maintenance to join our Thompson Creek team.  

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensure safe, efficient and cost-effective utilization of plant and mine assets.  Operate within a “zero accident” philosophy.  Foster support for the implementation of Health, Safety, Environment and Quality standards for functional areas of responsibility. Verify that Superintendents and Coordinators complete observation and housekeeping reports, conduct daily safety tasks and weekly safety meetings.  Promote a culture where safety emphasizes personal awareness and responsibility.  
  • Assist in the development and implementation of mine-wide innovative work practices that improve productivity, capacity, and quality. Benchmark, develop and implement leading practice procedures designed to add value to the organization.  Monitor, review, and control adherence to productivity factors.  Establish and communicate department goals, objectives, KPI’s and resource management. 
  • Ensure accountability to performance standards and Company policies.  Establish goals and objectives with direct reports and conduct regular reviews.  Coordinate succession planning for department leadership. Provide leadership in maintaining an efficient and productive work force by encouraging consistent order, discipline, and cooperation, ensuring that business is conducted in a fair and consistent manner in accordance with the Company’s policies and consistent with Company’s pro-employee philosophy.
  • Coordinate the development and implementation of training programs for departmental salaried and hourly employees.  Ensure all employees are appropriately tasked trained and the documentation is complete in accordance with MSHA standards.   
  • Prepare and administer annual cost budget and capital expenditure, ensuring that budget is prepared in such a manner as to promote cost management and control. 
  • Ensure the optimization of the availability and reliability of milling and mining equipment using all available resources and strategies to deliver predictive and preventive maintenance plans and schedules to ensure assets are being effectively utilized. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

About You

To qualify, the following skills and experiences are required:

  • B.S. degree in a closely related discipline or equivalent work experience. Five to ten years of management experience in mine maintenance line functions and a minimum of three years’ experience at a Superintendent level supervising other salaried exempt employee’s, with verifiable demonstrated successful results.  Must possess proven skills and abilities in the areas of maintenance planning, preventative maintenance programs and cost forecasting and control, along with proven innovative leadership related to maintenance engineering and materials management. 
  • Show increasing levels of responsibility and accountability based on education, training, acquired knowledge, skills development, and desire to advance within the organization(s).  Familiarity with and an understanding of behavioral based safety programs and risk analysis is highly desirable.  Must possess proven verifiable skills involving human resource management including fair and consistent treatment of all employees, maintaining a pro-employee – union free work environment, strong facilitation, problem solving and conflict resolution abilities.  Must be team oriented with a proven record of fostering both departmental and interdepartmental support, cooperation and team building among employees.   
  • Must be able to pass Thompson Creek Mine pre-employment physical, which includes drug and alcohol testing.
