About the Opportunity

We have an opportunity for a Senior Project Engineer (Mechanical/Piping) to join the Centerra Corporate team. This position is a hybrid role based at our Toronto, ON office

Reporting to the Senior Director, Projects, the Senior Project Engineer is responsible for the management and coordination of technical-economic studies, as assigned, ranging from high level scoping studies to detailed feasibility studies. This role will also be involved in the smooth transitioning of projects from feasibility into detailed engineering and eventual construction, ensuring that project implementation is consistent with the approved design. Will also be responsible for helping to develop project schedules and effective implementation according to timelines, budget, and quality standards; build positive professional relationships internally as well as with contractors/consultants, vendors, and site employees. This will require close liaison with the Centerra Corporate team and the country based senior management, who will be responsible for specific in-country activities and for ensuring a successful operation. The Senior Project Engineer will ensure that best practices are implemented for overall project management and will support and help to develop Centerra project KPIs in accordance with Best Practices.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Deliver technical studies for projects, as assigned; compiles and submits project justifications as required.
  • Develop resource allocation, spend profiles, and procurement plans.
  • Create and maintain project schedules in P6 or MS Projects, which defines activities, sequence, dependencies, work effort, duration, and associated resource requirements.
  • Adhere to approved schedules and budgets.
  • Develop and maintain cost controls and reporting systems for all Capital Projects.
  • Secure and oversee contracts with outside parties.
  • Plan and manage internal and external project communications, ensuring effective exchange of project information and deliverables.
  • Identify, quantify, and mitigate project risks.
  • Ensure compliance with Government regulations and the ethical standards of Centerra, as specified in the International Business Conduct policy.
  • Promote professionalism, integrity, and leadership throughout the life of project(s), within and outside Centerra.
  • Manage economic trade-offs and acquire appropriate resources to meet project needs.
  • Adhere to internal cost controls and cost reporting requirements.
  • Support M&A as required.
  • Supervise and oversee engineering design for mechanical and piping design.
  • Provide mechanical and piping engineering design and review input.
  • Supervise multidisciplinary teams working on various projects, including civil, structural, and electrical.
  • Oversee execution and mechanical installation at project sites.
  • Provide mechanical and piping oversite or design assistance to sites, as required.
  • Develop project standards and specifications.

About You

To qualify, you must have a university degree in mechanical engineering, along with 10+ years of work experience in relevant project management environment.  

The following will be critical to successfully performing this role:

  • Successful track record of working on project(s) in international environment.
  • Demonstrated experience directing internal and client teams involved in multi-disciplinary activities.
  • Ability to strategically and tactically organize and structure activities.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in presentation.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong decision making & problem solving skills, with appropriate risk management competencies.
  • Ability to frequently travel to remote locations, as required.
  • 6+ years in the mining industry is preferred.
  • Advanced degree would be considered an asset. 
  • PMP designation or technical credentials in project management is preferred. 
  • Licensed Engineering Professional is preferred.
