About the Opportunity

We have an opportunity for a full-time Manager, Human Resources - USA Operations to join our team. This position is a remote based role, preferably located close to Challis, Idaho or in close proximity to Thompson Creek Mine. 

Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, the Manager, Human Resources - USA Operations oversees and supports HR positions at all U.S. locations and directly supports the Centerra US Exploration team (“CUSI”) and Goldfield site, based in Nevada.  This role provides HR leadership, consulting and expertise on employee and labour relations matters, legislation, HR policy, programs and governance.  Additionally oversees the 401(k) retirement and benefits programs (including the audit), and oversees the administration of talent acquisition programs, the global compensation and performance management processes, succession planning and Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity & Accessibility (IDEA) program. The incumbent will ensure that all U.S. sites are aligned with the corporation’s values, culture, and programs. 

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Serves as a trusted advisor to the senior management teams in the USA (General Managers, Project Managers and/or Vice President) on all aspects of people and talent strategy with full alignment to the Corporate HR strategy.
  • Manages US HR teams, provides guidance and leadership, feedback and coaching.
    • Contributes to a high-performance organization by putting People First, demonstrating respectful and inclusive leadership practices, encouraging a commitment to continuous improvement, and consistently managing performance in compliance with occupational health, safety, security, and environmental requirements.
  • Understand evolving USA regulatory influences on management, policies, processes and practices.
  • Responsible for overall HR regulatory, compliance and reporting requirements including but not limited to regulations concerning employment practices, employee health & safety, employee labour relations, etc.
  • Directs the implementation of the organization’s global and site HR programs, including providing coaching and guidance to managers, leading talent management programs including annual talent reviews, training & development programs and running performance management calibration sessions.
  • Act as a credible assessor and developer of talent and assume responsibility for effective work force and succession/organization planning processes to ensure that the USA has the appropriate leaders, critical talent/skills and high potential individuals to drive a high performing culture.
  • Full cycle HR for assigned client groups including recruitment, onboarding and offboarding of employees within the assigned sites.
  • Oversight of all US compensation & benefits programs, including 401(k) plans while aligned to corporate compensation frameworks. Lead the 401K Committee meetings and coordinate with external benefit vendors as needed.
  • Consults and guides assigned sites on HR issues.
  • Work with managers and employees to respond to all employee relations issues and performance improvement, corrective counseling/progressive discipline and other issues as needed.
  • Key role in the labour budgeting process for all of the USA, working with the US finance and HR teams to complete timely and accurate workforce budgets and forecasts.
  • Continues to advance Centerra’s Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity & Accessibility (IDEA) program to ensure that IDEA practices remain at the forefront of all talent/employee programs and are integrated into all stages of the company’s efforts to attract, develop and retain a diverse employee population that embraces an inclusive culture. Lead and guide the USA Regional (IDEA) Committees.
  • Collaborates with key stakeholders in other functions/departments and sites, including colleagues in the Corporate Toronto office.
  • Leads the continual transformation of the USA HR function as the operations grow.  Develops a team that is business savvy, proactive, responsive, empathetic, and personable – specifically leads the creation and build of highly effective HR teams across the USA.
  • Maintains a “roll-up your sleeves” manner that is perceived as people-centric, effective and non-bureaucratic.
  • Establishes and maintains an active culture of safety throughout the workplace, prioritizing employee safety and compliance and visibly demonstrates leadership behaviors associated with a strong safety culture. 

About You

To qualify, you must have at least 8-10 years of progressive HR experience, including managing and leading a HR team

Our ideal candidate will also possess the following:

  • University degree in a HR related field and/or considerable related experience.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, and willingness to learn and use new software and technologies.
  • Experience with SAP SuccessFactors and ADP considered a strong asset.
  • Demonstrated success in organizational and time management activities, setting goals and prioritizing work assignments.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy of work output, accompanied by demonstrated ability to take initiative to troubleshoot problems and seek solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated professional demeanor and people/client oriented, accompanied by reliability, flexibility and versatility. 
  • Previous experience in mining considered a strong asset
